2008- 2009 Overview and Schedule
 

As we Christians sojourn on our earthly pilgrimage,let us recognize formation as the process by which weconform more and more to the likeness of God.  Ourfaith teaches us that what we pray is what webelieve.  Therefore, the primary classroom forChristian formation is the church, and with the Eucharistas our most necessary nourishment, the primary guides information are the prayers and hymns of our tradition,especially those that are written in Sacred Scripture andproclaimed in the Liturgy of the Word. We need, however, a less formal environment forreading, studying, questioning, and discussing of ourByzantine Catholic spirituality and teachings. Religious Education or Eastern Christian Formation (E.C.F.)at our parish seeks to provide for this need and includesthree programs:

1)                 Adult Enrichment is held on selected Wednesdays from 7 to 9 pm or on Fridays from 7 to 9 pm. On scheduled days, the program begins with prayer in churchand then, following a ten-minute break, continues in theE.C.F. Center with video or lecture presentations anddiscussion.


2)                 Adult Catechism is a six-month program for those discerning God’s call to fullness of Christianlife and membership in the Catholic Church through Baptism,Chrismation, and Divine Eucharist.  Prospectiveconverts to Catholicism are also instructed in the AdultCatechism program. This program includes all of the AdultEnrichment classes (see above) in addition to specialclasses scheduled during the Great Fast according toneed. Inquirers about the basics of the Catholic Faith arealso encouraged and most welcome to attend.Adult Catechism culminates in the Christian InitiationRites at Pascha.

                 Youth Classes are for our youngsters age 4 through High SchoolSeniors.  Classroom Days are scheduled regularly along with occasionalGroup Days for combined classes.  All sessions take place onselected Sunday mornings from 10:45 and lasting to 11:30 am.

PROGRAM NOTES



RegardingPARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Parentsare to take seriously and support the religious Christianformation of their children!
Parentsare responsible for seeing that their children arrive toclass promptly and regularly.
Classes are of little value if parents are not alsobringing their children to Liturgy on Sundays and Holydaysthroughout the year, whether there is class or not.
Rememberthat the Family is a “Domestic Church” – by communicatingvalues and attitudes, the parents nurture faith in theirchildren.
Attendance records are kept and awards given forexcellence.



RegardingText Books:
OurE.C.F. program is tuition free.
Weask that text books be purchased for each student from ourBook and Icon Shop; there will be a $35 family maximumpayment for youth book expenses.
Students are to care for their books and bring them to eachclass.
As our youth classes are combined grades, a student may beusing a text book that is one grade before or after theircurrent grade.
